ASTRO SCHOLARSHIP AWARD 2011

SUMMARY
Astro Scholarship Awards is a bursary reserved for Astro loyal subscribers and their immediate family members. Scholarships will be awarded for young Malaysians to pursue areas of studies related to the media and broadcasting industry in local universities or overseas universities and colleges recognised by JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia). These include: Accounting and Finance, Art and Design, Business Administration and Management, Computer Graphics, Drama, Dance and Cinematic, Economics, English Language and Literature, Engineering, Mass Communication and Journalism, Multimedia, Performing Arts, TV, Film and Production, others related to the industry.

Astro Scholarship Awards is unique in that it is committed to providing an optimal environment for acquiring knowledge, skill, experience, and mentoring guidance. Ideally, each scholar will be assigned to work with Astro content partners and in Astro during internship. The scholar will also be assigned a mentor to guide him or her throughout his or her studies. Upon graduation, the scholar will be given employment opportunity at Astro. This process ensures that our scholars pursue an area of study relevant to their interest with a clear vision of a career path right from the start. For these reasons, Astro Scholarship is specifically reserved for young Malaysians who are below 21 years of age.

ELIGIBILITY
  1. Malaysian citizen.
  2. No more than 21 years of age.
  3. Parents must be subscribers of Astro.
  4. Possess strong leadership skills and active participation in extra- curricular, social or voluntary activities.
  5. Not bonded with other companies/ institutions.
  6. Applicants must have consistent and outstanding academic results.
    • SPM- 7A's
    • STPM- 3A's
    • A Level- 3A's
    • Australian TER SAM/ AUSMAT- Minimum 90.0
    • Pre-U/ Local Matriculation/ Diploma- GPA/ CGPA at least 3.5
    • Obtained admission to pursue or currently pursuing studies at renowned universities.

1. Q:What is Astro Scholarship Awards?
A: Astro Scholarship is a bursary reserved for Astro subscribers and their immediate family members. To reward our loyal customers, an applicant must have an Astro account and in good standing for a minimum of 12 months at the time of application. Scholarships will be awarded for students to pursue areas of studies related to the media and broadcasting industry. These include Accounting and Finance, Art and Design, Business Administration and Management, Computer Graphics, Drama, Dance and Cinematic, Economics, English Language and Literature, Engineering, Mass Communication and Journalism, Multimedia, Performing Arts, TV, Film and Production, others related to the industry. . Students on Astro scholarship are expected to work in Astro or the subsidiary companies for 3 to 6 years.

2. Q: How many scholarships will be given out in a year?

A: Astro plans to give 10 scholarships per-year. However, this may increase or decrease over time. We expect to see extremely high competition for the scholarship and only the best students enrolled in top universities locally or overseas will be given the scholarship.
3. Q: Does Astro Scholarship cover Masters or PhD programmes?
A: Not at present time.

Qualifying Criteria and Application Process

1. Q: Who can apply for the Astro Scholarship?

A: Astro Scholarship is a bursary reserved for Astro subscribers and their immediate family members, i.e. spouse and children only. To reward our loyal customers, an applicant must be an Astro subscriber or is the spouse or child of the subscriber who has maintained good payment record for 12 months or more. Siblings or parents of a subscriber are not eligible. All applicants must hold a Malaysian citizenship. Only students enrolling in a university recognised by JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia) may apply. An applicant is expected to ensure the university and areas of study are recognised before applying for the Astro Scholarship.
2. Q: If a subscriber has more than one child, would the other children be able to apply for the scholarship?
A: The subscriber may apply at the same time but all applicants from the same family must voluntarily self declare this information upon being short-listed. It is unlikely that more than 1 member of a family will be awarded the Scholarship. Astro prefers to distribute the allocation of scholarship, in order for more families to benefit from it.

3. Q: I am currently doing a diploma/professional course in one college but have been accepted by a university recently. May I apply?
A: Yes.

4. Q: I am already studying in a university. Can I still apply for the Astro Scholarship?

A: Yes.
5. Q: I am not an Astro subscriber now. Can I apply for the Astro Scholarship?
A: Astro Scholarship is a bursary reserved for Astro subscribers and their legal spouses and children only. It is a benefit reserved only for Astro subscriber community. Where applicable, you may apply for the scholarship when this condition is fulfilled in the near future.

6. Q: When is the deadline for the application?
A: The application will close on April 12 2011
7. Q: What other documents must I submit with my application? Do I need to submit my transcripts, certificates, and application form by mail?
A: You are not required to submit any physical document until you are short-listed.

8. Q: I have just submitted my application online, but I forgot to make corrections. Can I resend it again?
A: No, you will not be able to change it and you cannot send in a second application. Please ensure all details are accurate.

9. Q: I forgot my password/ session ID, what should I do?
A: Your username and password will be emailed to the email address which you have used during the registration process.

Terms and Conditions FAQ's

1. Q: Will I be bonded and for how long?
A: An Astro scholar is expected to serve Astro or its subsidiary companies for 3 years if you apply for a local scholarship and 6 years if you apply for a overseas scholarship.
2. Q: Am I allowed to switch my area of study?
A: No, you are not allowed to switch your major without written approval from Astro.
